'Como Fui a Enamorarme de Ti' ('How I Fell in Love With You') is a song written and produced Mexican singer-songwriterMarco Antonio Solís, and performed by him as the lead singer of Los Bukis. It was released as the second single from their album Y Para Siempre. This song became their second number-one single in the Billboard Top Latin Songs chart, after 'Y Ahora Te Vas' one year prior.
The song lyrics were also used as the basis for the screenplay of the film of the same name released in 1991, and is widely recognized as one of the signature songs of the band, this track has been covered several times, including versions by Lucero, Yolanda del Río, Tito Nieves and Los Tri-O.[1]
Background[edit]
'Como Fui a Enamorarme de Ti' was released as the second single from Y Para Siempre, a studio album released by Los Bukis. The song lyrics, about an unrequited love, were also the basis for the script of the film of the same name, directed by Sergio Olhovich and released in Mexico on May 21, 1991.[2] The plot of the film was a love story between Marco Antonio Solís and a girl, played by Mexican actress Lourdes Munguía.[3]

The song has been also included on several compilation albums released by Los Bukis, including their two number-one albums 30 Inolvidables (2002) and Crónica de Dos Grandes (2004);[4] also has been covered by a handful of performers, including Banda Flamante, Yolanda del Río, Grupo Everest, El Grupo de Santa Clara, Lucero, La Nueva Luna, Estela Núñez, Oro Norteño, La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, Los Rieleros del Norte and Johhny Rivera.[1] The track also can be found in the Solís' greatest hits collection entitled La Historia Continúa, Vol. 2, which was the best-selling Latin album of 2005 in United States and received a Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2009.[5]
Chart performance[edit]
The original version of the song debuted on the Billboard Top Latin Songs chart (formerly Hot Latin Tracks) at number 35 on August 26, 1989 and climbed to the top ten nine weeks later.[6] It reached the top position of the chart on December 9, 1989 replacing 'Fuiste un Trozo de Hielo en la Escarcha' by Puerto Rican singer Chayanne and being replaced two weeks later by Emmanuel's 'La Chica de Humo'.[7][8] 'Como Fui a Enamorarme de Ti' returned to the top of the chart on January 13, 1990 for another three weeks, being succeeded by the song 'La Cima del Cielo' performed by Ricardo Montaner.[9][10] The song spent 39 weeks within the Top 40 and became the sixth top ten single for the group in the chart, and the second number-one hit, after 'Y Ahora Te Vas' (1989).[11]
Colombian group Los Tri-O, a project created by producer Johny Gutiérrez who held auditions to form a Latinballads-oriented trio, also recorded a version of the track for their album Canciones del Alma: De Marco Antonio Solís.[12] This version peaked at number 33 in the Latin Songs chart in United States.[13] Puerto Rican performer Tito Nieves also released his own version of the song on his tribute album to Marco Antonio Solis, Canciones Clasicas de Marco Antonio Solis, and peaked at number 20 in the BillboardLatin Tropical Airplay chart.[14]

Los Bukis ('The Bukis', buki translates as Little Kid in Yaqui language) were a MexicanGrupera band from Ario de Rosales, Michoacán. In 1975 the band was founded by cousins Marco Antonio Solís and Joel Solís. Their first song was Falso Amor ('False love') and its style became popular in all of Latin America. Marco Antonio wrote the songs; the album 'Me Volvi A Acordar De Ti' in the year of 1987 sold one million records in just a few weeks after its launch earning the album 'diamond' status. A prize that only big-time artists at that time like The Beatles and Michael Jackson had achieved.
Marco Antonio Solís also wrote and produced albums for artists such as Marisela, Rocío Dúrcal, Beatriz Adriana, Lucero, El Pegasso de Emilio Reyna (now using the name El Pega Pega) and María Sorté. After twenty years of a success with 'Los Bukis', Marco decided to pursue a solo career. An agreement was made with the remaining band members, both parties agreed to not make any use of the name buki. The remaining members formed a new band called Los Mismos ('The Same Ones') as in 'the same members of Los Bukis'.
Possible Reunion
In 2017, Eusebio 'El Chivo' Cortez and Pedro Sanchez left Los Mismos and joined José Javier Solís forming a new band named Los BK'S. Los BK'S was chosen because they cannot make use of the original name Los Bukis. Marco Antonio Solis has copyright ownership to the name. the purpose of the group is to reunite Los Bukis for one final tour and say good bye to the fans. José Javier Solis has stated that all the original members are welcomed to join. Marco Antonio Solis in an interview has stated that the reunion was done without merit and that only he will give an announcement should Los Bukis reunite he also stated that the group can make use of the songs but not make use of the name Los Bukis as it was a special significance in his career as well as for the other members. He mentioned that Joel Solis is not part of the reunion tour as well as Roberto Guadarrama due to his involvement with Los Mismos. as of 2019 Los BK'S continue to perform and have released their first studio album entitled Tu Amor. No official word if any of the other members will join the band has been given.
